*brain melting*

Yep, it's that time again. National Novel Writing Month.

See my icon for my current thoughts on this.

Must go continue writing now.

Actual wordcount: 4536
Technical wordcount goal for 11/09: 15,003

AKA ridiculously behind. See ya.

*returns to writing frantically*

Compliments

You know, I am honestly surprised when someone I don't know compliments me. Like Michael, from the previous entry. In response to my question about what he wanted for he won my little challenge, he answered "Nothing specific. Maybe just another of your works? They're very enjoyable to read."

Well, Michael, thank you /so/ much for the compliment, and I can certainly oblige you! Did you have a preference regarding fandom or character? Anything like that?

I have a hard time believing it when people give me compliments, because nobody used to... ^^;; So little makes me happier than total strangers giving me compliments. *ridiculously happy*

Fanfic - An Easy Thing

The first comment I got was a winner! ^^;; Michael figured out where the quote was from, so Michael, if you're out there, what do you want? Drawing? Piece of writing? If it's a drawing, nothing ridiculously complex, please. Unless you don't mind it being craptastic. :P
Yeah, I wrote this a little while back and I figured, hell, I posted it on the Pit of Voles, I may as well put it up here. Maybe I'll get more feedback this way. By the way., I totally accept concrit. I'm not going to run screaming from a bit of feedback that doesn't say how "ZOMG!!1!one!! aMasing!!one!!!1!" this is. I want concrit, damnit.

=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=+=

Disclaimer: I don’t own Naruto. . . . Damnation!

Author’s Notes: A... character study, perhaps? I'm not quite sure how to define this, but I like it, and everyone I showed it to so far thinks it is good, so here goes. ^_^ My plotbunny took a vacay on me, so it took me a while to finish this despite being only just over a thousand words.

An Easy Thing

//“It seemed an easy thing, to step into the nothingness, to fall, to die....//

He stood on the precipice, staring out into the endless sea of gold, red, orange, and ever-darkening violet that was the sunset. The wind threaded playfully through his hair and the treetops, inviting both to dance. The leaves waved jauntily as they turned from green to crimson to green and back in the fading light, glistening like so many drops of blood.

He took no pleasure in the sight or smell of blood, though he knew the townsfolk would laugh should he say so. As far as they were concerned, he was a bloodthirsty animal; a demon living in the skin and bones and sinew of a human, not worth the air he breathed.

He didn’t know why he remained. An easy thing would be to simply take a step forwards, to walk off the edge. With such a long drop, he was sure to be killed, had no way to survive. He looked dispassionately down, gazing into the growing gloom at the bottom of the sheer cliff. A slow river ran along the base, flowing quietly, glowing as if on fire.

There were some swimmers in the water; though they looked like bugs from such a height. Shino’s bugs, perhaps, or ants. It would be an easy thing to let his demon loose to do what it would. They were bound to drive him out of town eventually, why delay the inevitable? But he didn’t enjoy the suffering of others, not in the least. He’d had too much suffering in his own short life to enjoy someone else’s. He understood.

He watched the swimmers collect their things and head off, presumably back to the village. The last vestiges of sunlight dipped below the horizon and the stars winked into existence. The night was clear, and cooling quickly; he took out a kunai and began tossing it, watching it flash in the moonlight and catching it on it’s way down.

A miscalculation, and a cut appeared on his palm as the kunai slipped through his grasping hand, bouncing off a rock and over the edge of the precipice into the darkness. He held his hand up, the blood turning silvery-red in the light, and followed it as it drip-drip-dripped onto the ground under his feet.

It wasn’t very deep and the bleeding soon stopped. It would be an easy thing to cut deeper; to let the crimson flow until his body was cold and pale. It would be some time before they bothered to look for him, even longer until they found his body.

An owl left a nearby tree, off to hunt for the night, and he stared after it as it flapped silently away, riding the wind. How free it would feel to fly away into the night and escape his cage. But he couldn’t; jumping through the trees was the closest he could come. He enjoyed it, but it just wasn’t the same.

Turning, he approached the nearest tree and climbed up high into its branches. There was something satisfying about climbing a tree with just his own strength, without jumping or chakra. The tree was huge and ancient, rough-barked and many-limbed, hung about with vines and covered with moss on its north side. He gave a vine a strong tug; it held fast.

It would be an easy thing, to loop one round his neck. Simple, to then leap from the branch on which he stood and hang from this old tree. Dangle from a high limb like some macabre decoration. He laid a hand on the trunk of the tree, watching his breath mist silver in the air between them, then pressed his forehead to the rough bark. He remained that way for some time.

A rustle of leaves below him, and he looked down. For a split second, he saw familiar pale eyes, a sadness like his own buried deep under their surface. Then he blinked and the eyes were those of a tanuki looking up at the human in the tree, before bolting off into the underbrush. He climbed down from the tree and returned to the edge of the precipice, standing in his own blood.

Looking behind him to the east, the world was murky in the pre-dawn light; if he was going to leave, it would have to be fairly soon to make it back in time. He hadn’t decided for certain what he would do, but many options, easy and not, were available to him. All that awaited him at ‘home’ in the village was pain and heartache, but . . . .

He wasn’t the only person who lived with pain, he knew; others did as well. But he wondered sometimes how many lives would be happier should he die. Most of the village, for certain, would be quite content if he did what seemed easy and stepped into the nothingness.

But there were a few in his village who would be sad, or at least disappointed in him, should he do that. And there was one other . . . for that one, doing the easy thing would be a betrayal of the worst kind. He’d taught that person how to live—thought it took beating the hell out of him to do it—and showed him there was more to life than loving oneself.

The sun was coming up now. Standing on his tiptoes facing the emptiness on the edge of the cliff, he spread his arms and leaned over slightly, stretching his fingertips to the wind. He balanced for an eternal instant on the edge of the abyss; weightless yet weighty, oblivious and attuned at the same time. A smile flickered across his face as he leaned out a little further.

*********

Uzumaki Naruto lowered his arms. He turned towards the forest path lit with the rising sun and walked steadily forwards into another new day.

He had never been one to do the easy thing.

//...But then I saw it, eyes filled with endless sorrow, and I turned back to face my pain.”//

So, there you have it. My little ficlet-character study-thingy.

And if anyone can tell me where the quote is from, I'll do... something for you. A piece of writing or a picture or something. Really! I know where it's from, but it's kind of a contest of sorts.

I do have a companion image in the works, but there's no knowing how long that could take me. I hope to be able to do this as a sort of series, with a bunch of different Naruto characters. Maybe some other fandoms, too.

Soooooooo . . . guess where the quote is from! ^_^ And I would challenge you folks to guess the other person Naruto is talking about, but you probably know. ^^ Tell me who you think it is anyways, if you want. And watch out for companion ficlets!

Lust

So me and my friend Sarah are sitting at my kitchen table talking about Final Fantasy VII; about how much we like it and our favourite characters and all that great shit. Inevitably, as we are sad, sad people, we move on to discussing the relative hotness of different characters. And Sephiroth comes up. For those of you who don't know, Sephiroth is the big, insane bad guy from Final Fantasy VII. Anywho, things kind of went like this...

SARAH: I want Sephiroth! You have that Howl guy!
ME: I can lust after Seph if I want to! You were lusting about Howl!
BOTH: *break down into fits of giggles*
TIM (brother): *disembodied voice from another room* Are you two lusting after fictional characters again?
SARAH: . . .
ME: . . .
TIM: . . .
BOTH: Of course!! *more giggles*

Yeah, I know we were being all fangirl-y, but we'd hardly slept and were totally wired.  What can I say? ^^;; Exhuastion + sugar + caffeine = tittery teenage girls.

And on a more personal note . . . tomorrow = 19!! W00t!!!

*in a Ghibli-induced happy stupor*

I saw "Howl's Moving Castle" last night. It completely blew me away, and I am still in shock. I want to see it again, but can't, as it is only playing in the Park Lane theatre in Halifax, and it costs money to get there and back. And I'm all out of money.

Now I absolutely must read the book and it's sequel. Actually, I'll probably buy the book. Especially considering there isn't a copy in the PARLibrary. There was, but it's gone missing. Sigh. I hate it when people don't return their library books.

Although I'm tempted to start referring to it as "Howl's Roving Domicile," because it's funny. I was reading a review, and apparently said reviewer was tired of calling Howl's castle "the moving castle" and used "the roving domicile" instead. I was amused.

Okay, so... this is Howl, and he is Ghibli's first human pretty boy, as the Baron doesn't fulfill the "human" requirement:

Howl is sexy and I want him. He's also...

***SPOILER ALERT!! SPOILER ALERT!!**

*ahem* Yes, that was my spoiler alarm. If you don't want to know, don't read this part.

Anyways, Howl is also cursed. He gave his heart to the fire demon Calcifer in exchange for Calcifer's service. I don't mean his physical heart, though, I mean his emotional one. Therefore, he's got the emotional capacities of a child. Complete with temper tantrums and petulance. And green slime, but that's another story. ^_^ Albeit an incredibley amusing one.

Anyways, I have things to do. Some laundry and stuff, sinceI was away for the weekend, so off I go to the bowels of our laundry room. Blah.
Yup, here I go. Doing laundry.

Really, I'm going now.

Any second now...

Mm-hm...

*sigh*...

"I'm not dead! I feel happy!" and fun with lyrics

So... er... yeah. I'm not dead! I feel happy! And kudos to everyone who actually gets that reference. ^_^ I have nothing to discuss about a mouse, however, so I can't talk about cookies. (Brad, that was for you. ^_~ )

But... yeah. It's been over eight months since I updated my blog and I've been feeling guilty. Ish. Sort of.

...Okay, okay, Dendi-imouto-chan has been nagging me and that's a tiny bit of the reason I'm updating. Well, it's more like a third.

Okay, half.

...

...Fine. It's 99% of the reason I'm updating. But the other 1% is guilt. Really. Er... 0.5% is guilt and 0.5% is boredom. So... yeah. Can you tell I'm not motivated?

And since I'm not motivated, I'm jumping on the bandwagon and doing the guess the song thing. But with extra!song goodness. As in, doing twenty instead of ten just for shits and giggles. And to appease my imouto-chan for the time being.

And stop glaring at me, imouto-chan. I know you are. :-P Anyways, lets get this over with.

THE RULES
1: Open up whatever mp3 program you use and add every song in your collection.
2: Put it on random.
3: Pick lines from the first 10 songs that play.
4: Post and let everyone you know guess what song the lines come from.
5: Cross out the songs when someone guesses correctly.
6: DON'T RUN THEM THROUGH A SEARCH ENGINE.

So, those are my songs. Since I don't seem to have the strikethrough option for my text, I will italicise and bold the songs once they have been correctly guessed. Some are easy, I know, but a few of them are a bit obscure. ^_^ Sorry, imouto-chan, but I think you'll have moire trouble with mine than I did with yours. ^o^

Anyways, I should go now. I guess. *larme* Good luck, everyone!

Happy Turkey Day, Canada!

Happy Turkey Day to all you Canucks reading this!! ^_^ I just finished my turkey. It was good, but I won't be sleepy... for some reason, turkey never makes me sleepy, just hyper. As my friend "Eggydez" discovered one night when we had turkey with his dad and crazy French relations, and I was sitting at his computer tittering insanely while he was half asleep and wishing I would shut up. ^^;;; Yeah.

In other news, me and Brad (the ex) are on speaking terms again. I went to the arcade yesterday and saw him there, and decided I was sick of even seeing him being fucking awkward, so I said hi. It all turned out okay. (Read: He didn't ask me to go out with him again or anything, which is what I was worried about.)

Not much else going on... read Tamora Pierce's "Alanna: The First Adventure" from her "Song of the Lioness" quartet in about an hour and a half, which left me starved for the next three books in the series, then divested myself of a Gravitation Yuki/Shuichi plot bunny. Well, actually two, because I managed to incorporate both ideas into one story. Which isn't finished, since I only just started it, but I actually MEAN to finish it, so look for it here if you're interested. I still have about two dozen OTHER plot bunnies attached to various parts of my legs, but that's okay.

I went out with Jessica yesterday, taking pictures at the graveyard and Heidi's house for her photography assigment. Twas much fun. I miss my REAL camera (As opposed to my point-and-shoot digital) that stopped working mysteriously when I was away in Mississauga with Dendi-imouto-chan for March Break last year.

And that's all, really. Not much going on with me. I stupidly left all my manlove in Dartmouth when I came back to Trenton for the weekend, so I was starved for some manlove. And reading material, then I got that Tamora Pierce book, but then I devoured it. *SIGH* So bored. Well, going to keep writing. Or something. To stave off my immense amounts of boredom. Well, after I stick in some lyrics... Hm... what today... well, it's more Nightwish for sure... how aboooouuuut... "Dead Boy's Poem"! Fucking awesome, and as of yet, unposted on my blog. ^_^ (By the way, what's in bold is the dead boy's poem. That is... the poem that the dead boy wrote... er, yeah...)

Born from silence, silence full of it
A perfect concert my best friend
So much to live for, so much to die for
If only my heart had a home

Sing what you can't say
Forget what you can't play
Hasten to drown into beautiful eyes
Walk within my poetry, this dying music
- My loveletter to nobody

Never sigh for better world
It's already composed, played and told
Every thought the music I write
Everything a wish for the night

Wrote for the eclipse, wrote for the virgin
Died for the beauty the one in the garden
Created a kingdom, reached for the wisdom
Failed in becoming a god

Never sigh for better world
It's already composed, played and told
Every thought the music I write
Everything a wish for the night

"If you read this line, remember not the hand that wrote it
Remember only the verse, songmaker's cry the one without tears
For I've given this its strength and it has become my only strength.
Comforting home, mother's lap, chance for immortality
where being wanted became a thrill I never knew
The sweet piano writing down my life"

"Teach me passion for I fear it's gone
Show me love, hold the lorn
So much more I wanted to give to the ones who love me
I'm sorry
Time will tell (this bitter farewell)
I live no more to shame nor me nor you
And you... I wish I didn't feel for you anymore..."

Wanderlust and NaNoWriMo

Ah, it's almost that time again. Almost time for that wonderful and frantic event known as National Novel Writing Month... or just NaNoWriMo. Actually, this post is FOR the Nanos out there, just in case there are any looking at my "homepage". Though why anyone would bother, I'm not quite sure. But if you ARE bothering, come in, sit down, and maybe you'll be mildly entertained or interested by the thing that is my life.

Anyways, back to my original topic. NaNo. And if you have never heard of it, or just don't really know what it is, check out their website, which is muchly spiffled up from last year thanks to a graphic design guy. ^_^ But anyways, I'm greatly looking forward to it. I managed to win last year... by 18 words and a couple of hours... and I'm hoping to do better when this November rolls around.

*SIGH* I have SUCH a case of wanderlust right now... but, of course, no money or time for it. University, lack of job, and all that stuff. Oh well. I'll just have to rove within city limits with my bus pass until my wanderlust is satisfied...

And, of course, to fit my wandering mood, lyrics! "Wanderlust" by Nightwish!

I want to see where the sirens sing
Hear how the wolves howl
Sail the dead calm waters of the Pacific

Dance in the fields of coral
Be blinded by the white
Discover the deepest jungle

I want to find The Secret Path
A bird delivered into my heart, so

It's not the end
Not the kingdom come
It is the journey that matters, the distant wanderer
Call of the wild
In me forever and ever and ever forever
Wanderlust

I want to love by the Blue Lagoon
Kiss under the waning moon
Straying, claiming my place in this mortal coil

Riding the dolphins
Asking the mountains
Dreaming Alaska
The Earth can have but Earth

I want to find The Secret Path
A bird delivered into my heart, so

It's not the end
Not the kingdom come
It is the journey that matters, the distant wanderer
Call of the wild
In me forever and ever and ever forever
Wanderlust

Look into my eyes and see the wanderer
See the mirrors of a wolf behold the pathfinder...>/i>

Lyrics courtesy of me having the album!! YAY!!! I have "Oceanborn", "Wishmaster", "Over the Hills and Far Away", and "Century Child". I want them all!

Um... oops? Eh heh heh heh...

Um, yeah. So. I haven't updated in forever, but here I am. No longer living with my parents, now living with my grandmother in Halifax, attending Saint Mary's University.

And yes, I know it's been forever since I posted anything. Even MP3 begs. But now I have my own computer, and KaZaA, so I don't need to anymore. YAY!

Uni is good. My German prof is absolutely awesome, and hopefully my French prof will be too. The other two for first semester are cool, just not quite up there yet. ^_^ With any luck, I'll have Professor Beaulé for my FRE (French, duh) 250.0 class.

Once I get into one. See, I signed up for FRE 200.0, bacause it's the prereq for ALL the other French classes, so I had to, but when I did my placement test, they bumped me up into a more advanced class. Except all three sections of the 250 class are full. But they HAVE to make room for all us 200 folks who got bumped up. There's five sections of 200, and 14 from my class alone got bumped. They may have to open another section all together. Or at least raise the ceiling for the current FRE 250 sections. So right now... je suis en limbo. Yeah. So.

The first day I went to campus was kind of cracked. I went the day before classes started to get my student ID and my U-Pass*, but I ended up having to make an appointment to get my ID for the next day at 10 am. The time wasn't the problem, it was the fact that between getting to campus and having my first (and only) class of the day, I'd have FIVE HOURS to kill. Blarg!! I did manage to get both my ID and U-Pass, as well as all my books for first semester, though. Although I have to take my FRE 200 ones back now... good thing I never opened them, or I'd be out $140, and STILL have to buy the new ones for FRE 250!

*For everyone who doesn't know, at SMU the students get something called a U-Pass. It's an ultra-cheap bus pass, that only we get (currently) since SMUSA (SMU Students Association) cut a deal with Metro Transit. Instead of having to pay $51 a month, like all the other students out there, we pay $110 and it lasts from September until April 30. Unlimited travel, any bus, any time. ^_^ It's wickedly cool. And I get to laugh at my friends who DON'T have the SMU U-Pass. Call me a bitch, but it's fun. ^_^

So... I feel like posting song lyrics... Hm... How about Nightwish's "Wishmaster"? Sure, Why not! ^_^ It's an awesome song!

Master!
Apprentice!
Heartborne, 7th Seeker
Warrior!
Disciple!
In me the Wishmaster

Elbereth
Lorien

A dreamy-eyed child staring into night
On a journey to storyteller's mind
Whispers a wish speaks with the stars the words are silent in him
Distant sigh from a lonely heart
"I'll be with you soon, my Shalafi"
Grey Havens my destiny

Master!
Apprentice!
Heartborne, 7th Seeker
Warrior!
Disciple!
In me the Wishmaster

Silvara
Starbreeze

Sla-Mori the one known only by Him
To august realms, the sorcery within
If you hear the call of arcane lore,
your world shall rest on Earth no more
A maiden elf calling with her cunning song
"Meet me at the Inn of Last Home"
Heartborne will find the way!

Master!
Apprentice!
Heartborne, 7th Seeker
Warrior!
Disciple!
In me the Wishmaster

Wishmaster
Crusade for Your will
A child, dreamfinder
The Apprentice becoming...

Master!
Apprentice!
Heartborne, 7th Seeker
Warrior!
Disciple!
In me the Wishmaster

Master!
Apprentice!
Heartborne, 7th Seeker
Warrior!
Disciple!
In me the Wishmaster

Master!
Apprentice!
Heartborne, 7th Seeker
Warrior!
Disciple!
In me the Wishmaster

And just for fun.... Hammerfall's "Destined for Glory"!! (Again, from Dark Lyrics)

Once upon a time in a forlorn land,
a man on a mission was left at fates hand
In his eyes you could see the whites turn red
Surrounded by evil, abandoned for dead

Born on the run by the sign of the sun
A mail-clad warrior, the chosen one
His name's been cursed, he is bound to fail
A wandering spirit with the will to prevail

By the sign of the moon,
he swore the oath to fight alone

Fight with your heart, and you're destined for glory
But fight without honor, and you're destined to fall

He still can recall his father's words
"Don't loose your faith, let your voice be heard"
Echoes from the past will lead him on
By these words of honor, shine like the sun

By the sign of the moon
He swore the oath to fight alone

Fight with your heart, and you're destined for glory
But fight without honor, and you're destined to fall
Fight with your heart, and you're destined for glory
But fight without soul and you will lose it all

The prophecies spoke of a wandering man
Skilled with steel, black as the night

Normally veiled from the mortal eyes
His hammer arose like a magic force
With a gaze that turned everything into stone
the warrior spoke, "I am the one"

Fight with your heart, and you're destined for glory
But fight without honor, and you're destined to fall
Fight with your heart, and you're destined for glory
But fight without soul and you will lose it all

Fight with your heart, and you're destined for glory
But fight without honor, and you're destined to fall
Fight with your heart, and you're destined for glory
But fight without soul and you will lose it all

And that's it for my blog today!

Never Fade

We're on our way,
We all have goals in sight
Time will tell
We can all be something greater than we know,
Greater than we know

Tonight we'll dance
Reminisce about the days that passed
The memories will never fade,
Let's make this short night last
Tonight we'll sing
And keep remembering
The times we spent
Oh, we'll never forget

Colors spray,
Of the memories we've made
Visions of yesterday,
So vivid in my mind,
So vivid in my mind

Tonight we'll dance
Reminisce about the days that passed
The memories will never fade,
Let's make this short night last
Tonight we'll sing
And keep remembering
The times we spent
Oh, we'll never forget

Say what's on your mind
'Cause this is the time to dance,
Reminisce about the days that passed,
Say what's on your mind
'Cause this is the time to sing,
And keep remembering

Paper in hand, horizons expand
One chapter in our life is closing
Now it's time to write the next,
Time to write the next

Tonight we'll dance
Reminisce about the days that passed
The memories will never fade,
Let's make this short night last
Tonight we'll sing
And keep remembering
The times we spent
Oh, we'll never forget
